Wedding Tip of the Week-4

Should we invite kids to the wedding, should we not?  It’s the age old question that we get from many of our brides and grooms and often one of the biggest causes of family issues.  My advice:  Do what works for you!

If you choose to have children attend your wedding, keep them busy!  You will be happy you did and their parents will thank you.

  • kids meals – order them chicken fingers, pizza, whatever suits their fancy!  Not only are kids meals less expensive, they are fast, fun, will keep them entertained and they will actually eat them!
  • kids activities – whether you choose to have a kids table (this will depend on their ages) or have them sit with their parents, give them something to do!  Hit up the dollar store, a goodie bag of colouring books, stickers, toy cars, and maybe even a little candy will keep them busy while you get through dinner and speeches.  Kids love to make cards and presents for the bride and groom so let them craft it up.

I also loved these 15 tips on what to do with kids at a wedding from The Knot

If you prefer an adult only affair, here are some general rules of thumb and cute sayings to help you get your point across nicely:

  • invitation: address the invites to the adult names only.
  • rsvp: indicate the names or that you have reserved X number of seats for the guests replying
  • wording: for those that need something a little less subtle – “While we love to watch the children run and play, this is an adults only kind of day”

Which ever option you choose, own it!  It’s your day, have it your way.

Happy Planning!

3 ways to personalize your wedding ceremony
There are many ways to add your own personal twist to your wedding ceremony, the possibilities are truly endless, and all it takes is a little creative thinking.  Here are a few tips to make your day your own and one that your guests will not soon forget!
Words – The first and most obvious is you could opt to write your own vows, you could also choose readings from your favourite greeting cards that you and your fiancé have exchanged, or ask your parents or grandparents what has made their marriage so successful and have the commissioner work that into your ceremony (it’s even better if your parents or grandparents don’t know it’s coming!).
Music – You could be an unconventional bride and dance down the aisle with the live music, trading in your bouquet for a tambourine or have your wedding party dance down the aisle to a totally out there but  favourite song, or if you choose a more traditional song to walk into, you could play something a little more shocking for your grand exit back down the aisle, we have even done singing flash mobs for the exit back down the aisle!  Whatever you choose, make sure it screams YOU and have fun with it!
Ceremonies – There are several types of special ceremonies or blessings that you can incorporate into your wedding ceremony.  The key is to do something unique that means something to you and your fiancé.   So, whether you choose a traditional unity candle ceremony, a simple sand ceremony, an exchange of roses, a heart-felt hand binding ceremony (this is where the saying tying the knot comes from!), a sacred rock ceremony, an eagle feather blessing, or something similar, make sure it incorporates you and your beliefs and what marriage means to you.
Infusing your personality into your day is what makes it memorable, special and unique and every piece of the wedding puzzle is an opportunity to do just that.
Stay tuned for tips on personalizing your reception!

The life a wedding planner is far from glamourous.  I learned very early on never to wear a dress on the wedding day due to all the bending, lifting, crouching and climbing (yes climbing!) that is often required.

As we start to plan for Boobyball 2015 I thought it was time to share the long overdue pics from last year’s Big Top Booby!

I have been on the Rethink Breast Cancer committee since 2008, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and providing much need support for those in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s who are concerned about or affected by breast cancer.  Boobyball has quickly become one of Calgary’s hottest events and it’s SO fun to plan!  It’s an amazing party we put on every year, an over the top fundraiser to….well….raise funds!  2014 was no exception.

The theme: Big Top Booby.  The venue: Hyatt Auto Gallery.  The buzz: AMAZING!

It really was a magical night under the big top.  An evening filled with colourful characters and surprises to stimulate all of the senses.  Music from Pez Productions, lighting from PK Sound, roaming circus performers that dazzled, flowers from Phillip Chong Flower Bar, delectable treats from Whippt Desserts, hair and nails from Aveda and CnD Vinyalux, photo booth by SoPhoto, VIP booths styled by Orange Trunk Vintage Rentals and let’s not forget the savoury morsels from Devour Catering.

A HUGE thank you to the dedicated committee who made it all possible and our amazing sponsors, we can’t thank you enough.

Looking forward to this year’s event, stay tuned for details!!
