I tend to go a bit over the top with my children’s birthday parties but I attribute that to being a wedding planner by trade and with all the cuteness how can I not?!?! It was our youngest son’s first birthday and we went with a lumberjack theme. I’m a big DIYer so most things were made and/or printed at home.
I went with a simple email invite since we were just inviting family and a few close friends. I made it in Word using free kraft paper and buffalo plaid stock photos and a wood font I downloaded online.
For the décor I ordered plaid napkins, a wood/plaid tablecloth and lumberjack plates from Birthday Express. The rest I made myself. I couldn’t find buffalo plaid paper anywhere so I printed a few pages using the stock photo to make the birthday flag banner, cupcake circles and wrappers. I used kraft paper and the wood font to make the rest of the banners and signs. I made the log cabin treat bags from brown paper bags and stapled some green felt to make the roof, my older son helped me colour them to make them look like wood.
I kept the food simple, lumberjack sandwiches, fruits and veggies. I also made a few sweet treats to fit the theme, s’mores on a stick and birch sticks (pretzel breadsticks covered in white and dark chocolate to look like trees).
Photo booths have become a standard at our kids parties, I use sparkbooth on my Mac book and my mini cannon printer to print pictures so guests have a memento to take home with them (or 20 like the 7 year old girls left with, they LOVED it) and the kids just have to hit the space bar and it does the rest. I did a custom background for the printouts to say thanks and printed up some lumberjack photo booth props I found on etsy.
I usually like to have some sort of kids game so I went with a twist on pin the tail on the donkey and had an “axe throwing” competition.
It was such a fun party to put together and being that it was in December I loved playing up the lumberjack aspect and embracing the winter theme. Enjoy the pics!!
Update: This party was also featured on Canadian Mountain Chic!
